چکیده

We describe a method for tracking animals in wildlife footage. It uses a CONDENSATION particle filtering framework driven by learnt characteristics of specific animals. The key contribution is a periodic model of animal motion based on the relative positions over time of trackable features at significant body points. We also introduce techniques for maintaining a multimodal state density within the particle filter over time to enable consistent tracking of multiple animals. Initial experiments show that the approach has considerable potential.

Tracking Many Objects Using Subordinated Condensation

We describe a novel extension to the CONDENSATION algorithm for tracking multiple objects of the same type. Previous extensions for multiple object tracking do not scale effectively to large numbers of objects. The new approach – subordinated CONDENSATION – deals effectively with arbitrary numbers of objects in an efficient manner, providing a robust means of tracking individual objects across ...

Quadruped gait analysis using sparse motion information

In this paper we propose a system that recognises gait and quadruped structure from a sparse set of tracked points. In this work the motion information is derived from dynamic wildlife film footage and is consequently extremely complex and noisy. The gait analysis is carried out on footage that contains quadrupeds, usually walking in profile to the camera, however, this part of the system is po...

EcoLocate: A heterogeneous wireless network system for wildlife tracking

All research to date using wireless networks for wildlife tracking has concentrated on monitoring a single species, using large GPS enabled collars. These collars are too heavy to attach on smaller animals. Rather than omit small animals from the tracking spectrum, we show how a fusion of GPS tracking (where applicable) and an improved version of VHF tracking can result in a system which is abl...

On a Wildlife Tracking and Telemetry System: A Wireless Network Approach

Existing approaches to monitoring wildlife with wireless networks have not taken into account the vast heterogeneity inherent in the Animal Kingdom, especially with respect to bodyweight (and hence tag carrying capacity). This has resulted in a single design of tag which is only suitable for placement on larger animals. Thus, with existing technology, small animals cannot be monitored using the...

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and Artificial Intelligence Revolutionizing Wildlife Monitoring and Conservation

Surveying threatened and invasive species to obtain accurate population estimates is an important but challenging task that requires a considerable investment in time and resources. Estimates using existing ground-based monitoring techniques, such as camera traps and surveys performed on foot, are known to be resource intensive, potentially inaccurate and imprecise, and difficult to validate. R...
